Class: Intro to Stand-Up Comedy (5-week class.)

Class Dates: Sundays, November 4, 11, 25, December 2, 9 (No make up classes will be available. Classes are subject to change and cancellation.)
Time: 7:00-9:00 PM

Description: This is your introduction to stand up comedy! In this workshop students of all experience levels will learn stand up comedy writing including joke structure and performance techniques with the goal of becoming confident and comfortable on stage. This class is specially tailored towards both beginning comics who want to learn where to begin and professionals who want to brush up on the basic fundamentals of stand-up comedy in a fun, safe environment! By the end of this class you’ll have a 3-minute comedy set and a foundation from which to build. In this class you’ll learn the following:
– Basic Joke Structure
– Joke Writing Techniques
– Stage Presence
– Basic Performance Techniques
– Do’s and Dont’s
Homework: Bring your original jokes. If you don’t yet have jokes write a paragraph about yourself. Your name. Where you’re from. Tell us about your family and how you fit in. Your job. Your current or past relationship. Tell us something unique about yourself. We will teach you how to take your funny ideas and turn them into jokes fit for the stage.
This class is designed to take the student from early-stage comedian to opening act or feature act ready in less than two months. During class, each student will have the opportunity to perform their material and have instant feedback from our professional instructor, comedy booking director, and peers. Performance and writing techniques will be taught as well as business tips on how to get yourself paid work and become a professional comedian. By the end of this class you will have a solid 10-15 minute set with demo video to help you gain work as an open or feature act. This class will show you what different bookers are looking for and how to navigate the booking process. It’s show BUSINESS – we will make you more marketable to the venues where you want to perform.Must have prior experience performing stand-up comedy. This class is not for individuals new to comedy.
Casey Peruski born in Detroit, Michigan and grew up in FL for most of his life. He has been a professional comedian for over 17 years. Casey has had the opportunity to work with dozens of the biggest names in the comedy world like Brian Reagan, Arsenio Hall, Louie Anderson, Dave Coulier, Jon Lovitz, Kevin Nealon, Nick Swardson, Rob Schneider, George Wallace, Tom Arnold and Richard Lewis just to name a few. He also hosts and produced over 500 of his own shows for the last 8 years mainly in Fort Pierce at the Sunrise Theatre every second and fourth Saturday of the month with his Uncle Spaz known as Casey N Spaz Comedy! Casey was invited to audition for NBC’s Last Comic Standing, appeared in the Comedy Central Contest Up Next, Comedy Central South Beach Festival Finalist, Florida’s Funniest Finalist and seen on the award winning web series “Labor Days”. He has been guest and creative contributor for radio shows- The Jerk Show, 103.1 Morning Buzz and Jokerz Comedy Radio. Always donating his time or tickets for Charity Events, Casey has hosted and produced the last 6 years of shows for Project Lift’s Annual Clam Bake event in Stuart. Also with Treasure Coast Food Bank’s Out Laugh Hunger for the past 3 years and Teacher appreciation day for Jensen Beach Elementary to name a few.
Being half Irish and half Polish, with premature thinning hair, a love for pro wrestling, a father and married to a vegetarian yoga instructor wife he has plenty of material. Known as the Nice Guy of comedy (Unless you interrupt him on stage) he is very inviting while being very funny.
Benjamin Leis, is the co-founder and managing director of Comic Cure. Since September 2015, Comic Cure has booked and produced more than 200 events with more than 2,000 comedians (including breaking the Guinness Book of Records’ record for most comedians on a single show). Comic Cure clients include Miami-Dade County, Miami-Dade College, University of Miami, Red Bull, Mizner Park Cultural Center, WeWork, Hyatt Place, Gilda’s Club South Florida, Firefighter Cancer Support Network, and many more. Benjamin teaches the business side of comedy, providing an in-depth knowledge of how to become a professional comedian.
Richy Leis has been producing and performing in comedy shows for 18 years. Richy is the Creative Director for Comic Cure producing shows in the Los Angeles area with some of the best names in comedy such as Dana Carvey (SNL), Craig Robinson (The Office), Whitney Cummings (Chelsea Lately), David Koechner (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy) and many more. His résumé includes booking 50 comedy shows per week with 12,000 talent spots per year for one of the biggest comedy clubs in the Los Angeles area. His notable work is starting the Burbank Comedy Festival (www.burbankcomedyfestival.com) in Burbank, CA. Now in its 5th year, the Burbank Comedy Festival spans an entire week featuring celebrity comedy shows, podcasts, classes, workshops, after parties, and industry panels, networking comedians of all levels directly with the top agents, reps, managers and club, college and TV bookers, showcasing more than 300 comedians.
Richy hosted the pilot taping of Dana Carvey’s First Impressions TV show on the USA Network. Richy has appeared on Lifetime’s Little Women:LA, Regular Skype caller on TMZ Live, Jamie Kaler Power Hour-Blue Collar Channel on Sirius/Xm, MTV’s Is She Really Going Out With Him, VH1’s Basketball Wives.
